Privacy statement

TeamUpNL helps you find players to play football with. To do that, we keep as little as possible. This statement covers the app, the website teamupnl.nl and the waitlist. This is a translation; the Dutch text applies.

Who is responsible?

TeamUpNL is a trade name of MODEX (Dutch Chamber of Commerce 89703685) in Groningen, the Netherlands. MODEX is responsible for your data. Contact: info@teamupnl.nl.

What do we keep in the app?

  • Your name, email address and password (encrypted only) so you can log in. If you log in with Google or Apple, we only get your name and email address from them.
  • We only send you emails your account needs: confirming your email address and choosing a new password.
  • Your profile: username, gender, position, level, the colour of your avatar and the app's language. Other players see your name, username, position, level and photo, never your email address or gender. Only our admin team sees your email address and gender, to handle reports and to be able to email you. You can't change your gender yourself once chosen, because TeamUps for women or men only depend on it.
  • That you are 16 or older and agreed to the terms of use, and when.
  • Who you follow and who follows you.
  • After a TeamUp: your stars for the game (only for us, to see how TeamUps go) and the honours you give ("Played well", "Great teammate"). Other players see on your profile how often you were honoured, not by whom. We remember who was in a TeamUp, also after heading home, so you can review your teammates afterwards.
  • The times when you can't play. Only you see them; we use them to not send you notifications then.
  • Your profile photo, if you add one. Only logged-in players see it, and not the players you block. The app makes the photo smaller and removes data such as the location before it is sent.
  • Your favourite pitches, the TeamUps you start or join, and your messages in the lobby chat.
  • A push code per phone, so we can send you a notification, and which notifications you want (Profile → Notifications): new TeamUps at your favourite pitches and from players you follow, chat messages, who joins, reminders.
  • Reports and blocks you make, to keep the app safe. When a message is reported we keep a copy of it for the review. Only our moderation team sees who reported (with the email address, so we can reply); the reported player never does.
  • Feedback you send (Profile → Feedback), with the app version and the type of phone, so we can find bugs. We email it to our team and may reply to your email address.

What do we keep when you join the waitlist?

  • Your email address, the place where you play (if you fill it in), the language of the page and when you signed up and confirmed.
  • An unrecognisable form of your IP address (a hash that changes every day), to limit abuse of the form.

What do we use your data for?

  • To make the app work: your account, TeamUps, the chat and notifications about TeamUps (performance of the contract).
  • To keep the app safe: filtering abusive words, reviewing reports and blocking players who break the rules (legitimate interest).
  • If you share a TeamUp (Share in the lobby), anyone with the link sees the pitch, the time and how many players have joined, no names.
  • For the waitlist: one email to confirm your sign-up and a message when the app is available. We use the place to see where most players are waiting. We do this because you ask for it yourself (consent); you withdraw it by unsubscribing.
  • We use no analytics, show no ads, sell nothing and don't track you in other apps or on other websites.

Your location

  • If you allow it, the app uses your location to open the map near you. For that, your location stays on your phone. If you don't allow it, the map opens in Groningen and everything still works.
  • If you turn on "TeamUps nearby" (Profile), the app sends your location to our server when you open it and, if you allow it on your phone ("Always"), also when the app is closed: at most every 30 minutes, only between 08:00 and 22:00 and not at the times you can't play. Your phone first rounds the location to about a kilometre; your exact location never leaves your phone. We only keep the latest one and only use it to notify you when a TeamUp starts within 2 km. We stop using a location older than a week. If you turn it off, the app stops and we delete your location straight away (consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
  • Only the part of the map you are looking at goes to our server, to load the pitches in it, and what you search for on the map. We don't keep that.

Who helps us with this?

  • The app's database is hosted by Supabase in Frankfurt (EU); the app's server runs at Vercel.
  • The website and the waitlist run at Cloudflare; the waitlist is stored in the EU.
  • Push notifications go through Expo to Apple or Google. Emails go through Scaleway in Paris (EU).
  • The map in the app comes from OpenFreeMap and the map software (MapLibre) from jsDelivr. They see your IP address when your phone loads the map, as with any website; we send them nothing else.
  • Logging in with Google or Apple goes through them; what they keep is in their own privacy policy.
  • All these parties only use your data to provide their service to us and protect it at least as well as we do.
  • Pitch data comes from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).

How long do we keep it?

  • App: as long as you have an account. If you delete your account (Profile → Delete account), we immediately erase all your data, TeamUps, messages, reports and feedback. You can also do it without the app: see delete your account.
  • Waitlist: until you unsubscribe, and at the latest one year after the app is in the App Store and Google Play. A sign-up that isn't confirmed within 30 days is deleted, and so is the hash of your IP address. Unsubscribing deletes your data straight away.
  • You can withdraw permission for location, camera, photos or notifications in your phone's settings.

Cookies and analytics

The website uses no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. No scripts or fonts are loaded from other parties.

What are your rights?

  • You may see your data, have it corrected or erased, and object. Email privacy@teamupnl.nl; you'll get an answer within a month.
  • TeamUpNL is for players aged 16 and over.
  • If you disagree with us, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
